Artist and Founder,Tourist Records, LLC
Dusk Bennett got his start in the record business in the mid-90’s while working at 4th Street Recording in Santa Monica under Producer Jim Wirt (Fiona Apple. No Doubt, Incubus). It was through Jim’s guidance that Dusk learned the craft of using vintage audio technology to create timeless masterpieces.
After graduating from Loyola Marymount University in ’98 with a B.A. in Communications, Dusk took a live sound gig at A-1 Audio where he had the chance to work for several top National acts including Chicago, Barry Manilow, Motley Crue, and Vitamin C. After two years in live sound Dusk grew anxious to work in the studio again so he left the road to build his first commercial recording studio, Stigmata Recorders.
Stigmata was a short lived experience but it allowed Dusk to create several excellent indie rock productions before it ultimately closed. While none of those records ever achieved any critical acclaim it cemented Dusk’s reputation as a legitimate record-maker who could deliver high quality sounds on a tight budget. After Stigmata closed, Dusk pursued work as a freelance audio engineer working with several top-shelf musical acts including; The Black Eyed Peas, Five for Fighting, Sixx AM, Mike Love, and Rod Stewart. He further honed his reputation as a competent audio technician and became the go-to-guy for many of those artists on a technical capacity.
To date Dusk has realized successes that few audio engineers in this age have the opportunity to enjoy. His work on Rod Stewart “Stardust” gained him a Grammy Award and an RIAA certified Platinum award for being a part of Rod Stewart’s first Number 1 record; and his participation on Fionna Apple’s “Tidal” also earned him an RIAA certified Triple Platinum award. In addition to supporting his existing clientele, Dusk also serves as part-time faculty in the Recording Arts Department at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
Dusk presently resides in the Westchester area, is happily married with two children (one a survivor of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome), and an avid collector of rare vintage recording equipment, which he uses in conjunction with his publishing enterprise to help independent artists get their music placed into network TV outlets.
